For all the wonders of modern communication, you can’t beat receiving an old fashioned letter sent through the post can you?

You can’t beat a personalised letter dropping on your doormat. It is almost as if the nation has forgotten how to write and receive! I was talking to an older colleague just yesterday and she was telling me she writes occasionally to her 7 year old grandson who lives abroad. His letters back are slightly more sporadic but he is encouraged to write back, which he hates to do and really struggles with. Of course he is only 7, but I was a penpal myself from the age of 7 or 8. I exchanged letters with the daughter of my mum’s old schoolfriend. I am sure we bored each other with tales of pets and things going on at school! Stamps were 7p – oh now I sound ancient!! Funny things I remember!
Yes, I totally agree with you. Now you mention it I had quite a few pen pals as a child. There was a Girl Scout I met in London on a Girl Guiding trip who I wrote to in Maryland and my French pen friend I did an exchange with, who I found on Facebook about 2 years ago. It was so nice to reconnect with her after all these years. But despite the fact technology allows you to do that, a good old fashioned letter can’t be beaten. 😊
My son thinks the ideas of penpals is so funny! Little does he realise how much joy it brought some of us. Yes, technology can be fantastic, but a letter, archaic but such a pleasure!
So true 🙂
I love receiving mail that’s not circulars, bills or begging letters. Just a lovely letter from a friend or even a postcard cheers me up makes me smile. Nowadays in this age of the Internet it doesn’t happen enough. It’s something I make sure I do for friends and family. xxx
Yes personal handwritten letters and postcards are very special. Especially when they are totally unexpected. 😊
Totally agree…😊❤️
Absolutley correct, you can’t beat a real letter.
It’s so nice to see that someone has taken to time to think about you in their busy day 😊.
