Rain, rain go away!

It’s been a bit wet here in Gibraltar this week. Autumn has well and truly arrived! We’ve had some major deluges and thunder storms which have caused chaos for many.

There have been floods AND a landslide!

This photo is courtesy the Government of Gibraltar and shows how the retaining wall below the Rock Hotel collapsed and sent a huge amount of earth and trees across one of Gibraltar’s major routes, Europa Road (read more about it on  Your Gibraltar TV).

This was the scene this morning. It’s big job, the authorities are hoping to have the road reopened to two-way traffic by Monday.

Elsewhere in Gibraltar there was severe flooding on Queensway which also made travel by car or bus erm, rather interesting.

We had a rather gloomy start to the week all round. Soggy school runs (you just know the really heavy showers always coincide with a lunchtime or afternoon pick-up), wet washing you just can’t dry (central heating is non-existent in Gibraltar therefore there are no radiators to toast your damp socks on!) and interesting fashion choices (waterproof trousers & coat worn with flip flops).

I know that a couple of weeks ago I was waxing lyrical about the rain and how refreshing it was after a long, hot summer but I’m kind of over that fascination!

Blue sky, come back please!

Please!!!

Oh that’s better, thank you! It’s so lovely to see you again.

And of course blue sky and sunshine = sunsets….

What a corker we had last night, I think you’ll agree that it was stunning.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great weekend!

  1. I like Gib in the rain. I think it’s really atmospheric 🙂 I don’t remember landslides up there before but a couple of Christmases back we set off for Spain on 25 Dec, Rosia Road and closed, Queensway was pretty soppy but we were in a LR so had a bit of an advantage 🙂 Partner managed to time most of the dog walks pretty well this week.

I look at the forecast and don’t put on a wash usually if it’s going to rain, ☔️ although we did get caught this week. And then it fined up ☀️

  2. Hopefully the beautiful sunset makes up a bit for all that rain? Is it too hot for central heating? I dread those warm damp days when it’s not cold enough for the heating and the washing just hangs around the house. (We don’t have a tumble dryer.) I hope you have a lovely sunny weekend. x

    1. Oh yes Sharon, it certainly did! 🙂 I guess the heat in summer is the reason for no central heating here, although for about 3 months last winter, we really could have done with some as it was a bit nippy. Many people (especially those in the more modern apartment blocks) have reverse air conditioning, which blows cold air in summer and warm air in winter. We live in a much older building which is pretty well designed for summer weather but is a bit drafty and cold in winter. We have some electric oil radiators but they aren’t quite the same and you can’t toast your socks on them! It’s a bit overcast today, but dry, a perfect day for not feeling guilty about doing nothing. Have a lovely weekend yourself 🙂 X
